Charles S. Nicholson

Charles S. Nicholson, 86, of Kennebunk, died at Kennebunk Nursing Home on May 31, 2012, after a long illness.

He was born in Biddeford on Dec. 18, 1925, the son of Stephen and Alma Perkins Nicholson and attended Kennebunk schools.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Italy. He married Shirley Bunnell on May 26, 1956.

Charles worked for more than 21 years as a gas station attendant at Davidson’s Service Station in the Lower Village of Kennebunk. He then worked for 10 years at Keuffel and Esser Co. in Kennebunk. He later worked for eight years as a custodian at Wells Elementary School until his retirement.

He enjoyed reading and boating, but his favorite pastime was his love for trains and going to museums and train functions.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by an infant sister, Virginia.

Surviving are his beloved wife, Shirley Nicholson of Biddeford; sister- in- law Olena Garrett of Florida; several loving nieces, nephews, cousins and many good friends.

A celebration of his life will be on Sunday, June 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Shirley’s home: 56 State St. (first floor), Biddeford, ME 04005
